GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 668786
inconsistent use of terminology

These things are all basically keyrings or key stores. So they don't really need to each be labeled as "... keyring". * The first one is unlabeled - why lowercase? * The second one one has the term "keyring" - how does this differ from plain? * GPG one has the term "keyring" again * Next is a "DB" * then a "Storage" * another "Storage" * then one without a label, which is fine * and finally a "directory"

This is a user created keyring, and the user (me) typed the following as the keyring name: plain > * The second one one has the term "keyring" - how does this differ from plain? Unless the user changes things, this is the default keyring for storing passwords. It is automatically unlocked when the user logs in (using gdm). We need a good term for: Keyring that is automatically unlocked when user logs into desktop. So far I've been using 'Login keyring' to describe this, but there maybe a better term? > * GPG one has the term "keyring" again Maybe "GnuPG keys" is better? > * Next is a "DB" This string comes from NSS. In this case I added NSS as a PKCS#11 key storage, similar to how I would add a smart card driver. Here we just display the label provided to us of the "smart card". In NSS's case this is "NSS Certificate DB" > * then a "Storage" The GNOME2 one shouldn't show up for most people, just something I was testing. > * another "Storage" I can change these in gnome-keyring. There would be a pair of keyrings here for most people. * System certificates and keys * User certificates and keys > * then one without a label, which is fine > * and finally a "directory" Will change this one to "OpenSSH keys"
