Doesn't look like it's part of the other bug from the description at least. Do you handle interlaced subpictures there differently? Maybe provide patches one-by-one for the different aspects then.

does not apply to latest git anymore (needs to be ported to 1.x), but looks interesting and correct otherwise

Just for the record, this isn't about interlaced subpictures - it's about rendering subpictures correctly onto interlaced video fields.
