When using gtalk if you are invisible, the screensaver / monitor off should not switch you to visible / away.  You should remain invisible.

This is actually supported by the auto away code. The problem is your global presence will be busy instead of hidden if at least one account doesn't support invisible (which is often the case). The real fix here would for MC to fallback to offline rather than busy which is https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38366
