Comparison: the default gnome-control-center and Ubuntu's version

It seems that Ubuntu has changed the width of the control center to avoid the scrollbar, which makes it look much better. Is there any reason for the current size of the gnome-control-center? Ubuntu changed the width to about 740px.

See the attached comparison of Ubuntu's control center and the default gnome-control-center.
