Description Tomas M. 2011-11-12 15:16:45 UTC
usual situation:
- laptop with an external monitor.
- external monitor acts as a primary screen with the gnome-shell panel in it. nautilus draws desktop icons on this screen. and laptop's screen acts as a secondary monitor.

when using the laptop without the external screen. everything works as expected. but when plugging the external screen again. nautilus still believes the primary screen is the laptops's and draws desktop icons there.

killing nautilus and starting it again fixes the issue.

i hope it was clear enough!

something to add:

the desktop background in that screen is resized as if it was for the primary screen (external monitor)
