If I start empathy, start a chat with someone, and then close the buddy list I can't figure out how to get back to the buddy list window.

Clicking the launcher in the Overview gives me back my existing chat window.

(I really think longer term we want to move to a single window design but for now we should probably make this easier)

This is bug #658043 I close a dup but please feel free to comment on this bug if you have any idea about the best way to solve this nasty issue.
