GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 660104
Ambiguous strings
Last modified: 2011-09-30 13:31:16 UTC
These strings seem ambigous. Please explain with comments https://live.gnome.org/TranslationProject/DevGuidelines/Use comments #: ../src/sources.js:96 msgid "All" All of what? #: ../src/view.js:69 msgid "Open" Is that a state (adjective) or a command (verb)?
Thanks for the report. The "All" string already has a translator comment. Is it not being picked up? The "Open" string missed a comment indeed. I added one now (it refers to the action of opening a document).
It looks as if some of the comments are not being extracted. You can see the current file here: http://l10n.gnome.org/POT/gnome-documents.master/gnome-documents.master.pot In the case of "All" in sources.js, it might be because the comment isn't in the directly preceding line, although I'm not sure. The new comment for "Open" isn't showing in that file, and I have no idea why. The comment two lines above for "Open with %s" is extracted, so this makes no sense to me. Maybe some failure on l10n.gnome.org. If you can generate a better pot file locally with intltool-update (or whatever generates it for gnome-documents) I guess it is fine to assume a failure on l10n.gnome.org's side. Claude, any ideas on the failing extraction of the comment for "Open" from src/view.js?
I confirm the issue about the comment for the "All" string, the comment must be on the line *immediately* preceding the translatable string. And for the "Open" string, the comment is extracted (see the raw POT file). However, D-L only updates po files if there is a real string change. This might be considered as a bug :-/
