Description Sebastian Pipping 2011-09-19 12:08:10 UTC
I would love to upgrade gitg from 0.2.4 to 0.2.5 in Gentoo Linux but the dependency on GtkSourceView 3.1.x doesn't allow me to do so, as (to my understanding) the Gentoo GNOME team does not want to add GtkSourceView 3.1.x before the release of GNOME 3.2 due to its development branch nature, see <https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=383527#c2>.

So I would like to ask: would it be possible for you to keep the code of gitg working with both GtkSourceView 3.0.x and 3.1.x so it requires 3.0.x only?
A new release with that would be ideal.

What do you think?

Hey,

you will have to keep going with 0.2.4 or update gtksourceview to a new version.

I hoped that it would be in your interest to have a bunch of extra users test the latest version of gitg, now and in the near future. Besides yourself, who is going to be bleeding-edge enough to run the latest version of gitg?

Well, if you are building gitg you could build also gtksourceview, see that we are also gtksourceview developers so we use gitg, gedit etc to bring new features to gtksourceview as well.

My concern is not about there case where you build every little bleeding-edge bit manually. My concern is inclusion in Linux distributions (Gentoo Linux in particular), so gitg 0.2.5 becomes available to a broader audience.

FYI GtkSourceView 3.2.0 just appeared in Gentoo so I was able to bump gitg to 0.2.5.
