GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 658536
Evince opens with top of window off screen
Last modified: 2018-05-22 14:20:51 UTC
I'm using Evince 2.32.0.14401 from the Portableapps site on Windows XP on a dual screen installation. When I open Evince the top of the Evince window is off the top of the screen and I cannot see any of the menus. This is opening Evince directly, not by clicking a file. I've tried changing the screen position settings (Desktop -> Properties -> settings) What seems to be happening is that Evince opens its window against the leftmost edge of the combined screens and with its top level with the top of the logically higher screen, whichever that is. If the top of the right screen is higher that the top of the left screen (The one being used by Evince) the top of the Evince window vanishes into the 'gap' between the tops of the two screens. If I drag the edge of the Evince window onto the right screen the top of the window is nicely lined up with the top of that screen and I can then get at the menus etc. and carry on normally. Attached screen dump showing this last position, note the 'Black Hole' above the left screen where the top of the Evince window gets lost. Hope that's clear?

Created attachment 225910 [details] Screendump showing misaligned window I converted the original from BMP to PNG. Way much smaller (7.1MB vs 92KB) and Bugzilla friendly.
Created attachment 225911 [details] Dual screen resolution settings I can not reproduce the problem in GNOME 3.4 (with either evince 3.4 or 3.6). It can be a specific issue in Windows or in a previous version of Evince. I attached a screenshot with the display setting I tried, which try to resemble the description given with the screenshot in Windows.
