Description Joey Zheng 2011-08-19 09:12:12 UTC
1, open gconf-editor
2, set value of "/apps/gdm/simple-greeter/banner_message_text" to "test".
3, open termnial and excute command "cat ~/.gconf/apps/gdm/simple-greeter/%gconf.xml"
4, re-do step#2 with value "hello" and step#3.

You will see the value which is set in step#2 is not set to %gconf.xml.

I have had similar headaches trying to set the keyboard shortcuts in gnome-terminal but the settings not sticking. I am using gconf 3.1.6-0ubuntu1 in Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric."
Comment 2 Jeremy Bicha 2011-08-24 06:34:29 UTC
well except my issue is not related to gconf.
Comment 3 Jeremy Bicha 2011-08-29 05:42:00 UTC
Sorry, I meant to say that my issue is not limited to gconf-editor.
Comment 4 Jeremy Bicha 2011-08-29 10:09:43 UTC
I can no longer reproduce this bug. Joey, what operating system were you using and what version of gconf-editor? And do you still experience your reported problem?
Comment 5 Joey Zheng 2011-08-30 06:20:18 UTC
Yes, I can still reproduce this issue. I am using openSUSE 12.1 M3 and gconf-editor is 3.0.0.
I also think that this may not only related with gconf-editor, and probably related with gconfd.
Comment 6 André Klapper 2018-07-01 08:39:16 UTC
gconf-editor is not under active development anymore and has not seen code changes for six years.
Its codebase has been archived: https://gitlab.gnome.org/Archive/gconf-editor/commits/master

Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is deprecated) if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again.
