GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 656131
Please tag ~/.thumbnails using CACHEDIR.TAG
Last modified: 2012-07-21 00:34:36 UTC
Various backup utilities can automatically exclude cache directories if tagged via the "Cache Directory Tagging" standard (http://www.brynosaurus.com/cachedir/). Doing so requires creating a file CACHEDIR.TAG in the cache directory (~/.thumbnails), containing the contents "Signature: 8a477f597d28d172789f06886806bc55". Please consider implementing this standard by creating this file, so that backup software can automatically exclude the thumbnail cache.
(Setting the Version field when reporting is very welcome.)
(In reply to comment #1) > (Setting the Version field when reporting is very welcome.) OK, setting to 2.30.x since I have 2.30.1 on my system, but I suspect current git master doesn't do this either. :)
Master stores thumbnails in the XDG Cache dir. I suspect this is probably good enough?
(In reply to comment #3) > Master stores thumbnails in the XDG Cache dir. I suspect this is probably good > enough? That works, yes. Something really ought to put a CACHEDIR.TAG file in the XDG cache dir, but that doesn't seem like the thumbnailer's job. Closing this bug.
