GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 655673
Low screen resolution problems: Superposing problem & setting windows cannot be resized
Last modified: 2018-02-01 07:22:03 UTC
Created attachment 192947 [details] Problem 1 (using Mutter) There two very annoying problems occuring on low resolution screens (like on my 1024 x 600 netbook's display). I've attached some screenshots showing these problems (using Abiword). * Some context menus were superposed by the upper Gnome shell bar (the former panel), making it impossible to select some menu entries (see 'Screenshot_001.png'). Using Metacity instead of Mutter, the problem does not occur (see 'Screenshot_002.png') * It is not possible to move some setting windows up and down, making it impossible to access the part of the window that is cut off by the lower screen end ('Screenshot_003.jpg'). Using Metacity, it is possible to move the same setting window up and down (see 'Screenshot_004.png').

Sorry, I wasn't aware that the images were renamed: Screenshot_001.png => Problem 1 (using Mutter) Screenshot_002.png => Problem 1 (using Metacity, not occurring here) Screenshot_003.png => Problem 2 (using Mutter) Screenshot_004.png => Problem 2 (using Metacity, not occurring here)

Please don't file "multi-issue" bugs. > * Some context menus were superposed by the upper Gnome shell bar (the former > panel), making it impossible to select some menu entries Known problem, see bug 633620. > * It is not possible to move some setting windows up and down, making it > impossible to access the part of the window that is cut off by the lower screen > end ('Screenshot_003.jpg'). Moving any window with alt-click is supposed to work. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 633620 ***

OK, I'm sorry. >> * It is not possible to move some setting windows up and down, making it >> impossible to access the part of the window that is cut off by the lower screen >> end ('Screenshot_003.jpg'). > > Moving any window with alt-click is supposed to work. No, in some cases it doesn't work, unfortunately. The second screenshot - 'Problem 2 (using Mutter)' - shows one of these cases: [Alt] + left mouse button moves the main window (the window with "Page: 1/1" on the bottom left) but does not move the "pop-up" settings window (Abiword: Format > Create and Modify Styles... > Modify...). This makes it impossible to change the format of a style.
