Description Shaun McCance 2011-06-27 13:56:30 UTC
Patches on bug #651299 allow the user menu to drop the user's name and just show the status icon if space is limited (small screens, portrait mode, etc). This could create confusion with our current standard blurb of "Click your name on the top bar". Emailing gnome-doc-list for discussion.

I'm not sure if we agreed on any particular action for this. Shall I email the designers?

Now there is also this extension: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/106/remove-user-name/

Maybe just "top right hand corner" ?

gnome 3.8 features a new Privacy control center applet which enables to hide also the name of the current user is favor of just the presence flag.
Comment 5 Kat 2013-10-26 00:17:39 UTC
Names are no longer shown in the top bar as of 3.10
