GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 651719
Configuring keyboard shortcuts
Last modified: 2011-06-03 13:09:35 UTC
It seems that the evolution-mail-message.xml file has been removed, which was the way of configuring keyboard shortcuts. Described in the FAQ (http://live.gnome.org/Evolution/FAQ#How_can_I_change_my_keyboard_shortcuts.3F). Could you add a (graphical) way for configuring keyboard shortcuts to evolution (as a replacement of the removed file)?
Which version do you use (means: In which version is the FAQ outdated, so we can edit it)? Not sure if this helps, but http://mail.gnome.org/archives/evolution-list/2011-May/msg00006.html came to my mind...
I do not known when the evolution-mail-message.xml file became obsolete. I do know that in version 2.32.2 the file is gone. ~/.gnome/accels/evolution indeed seems to contain the new keyboard shortcuts (as your link suggests). So the FAQ could be updated with this information. Any chance that this file is going to be configurable by some graphical method? (I think this would be a nice feature for evolution, especially for less experienced users)
In GNOME 3, open dconf-editor, navigate to /org/gnome/desktop/interface, checkmark "can_change_accels", start Evolution 3.0, hover your mouse cursor over the menu item for which you want to add or change the accelerator, type the shortcut you want. For GNOME 2.30 or 2.32, use gconf-editor instead of dconf-editor and follow a similar procedure. No changes to Evolution are necessary.
Thanks for your time, I agree that it is solved/not a bug. But I suppose the FAQ should be updated, so others will not get confused as well?
Feel free to go ahead - it's a wiki, anybody can get an account and edit it.
I updated the FAQ with the text Matthew Barnes provided in comment 3
