Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Package: gnome-core Severity: normal Version: 1.4.0.1 Synopsis: Swallowed app isn't swallowed Bugzilla-Product: gnome-core Bugzilla-Component: panel Description: Hi, the swallowed app isn't swallowed anymore. I used it to have gkrellm in a panel. Everything works, gkrellm is swallowed and if I delete the applet gkrellm is quit too. But it's not swallowed anymore. There's an empty box in the panel and an cropped view (depending on the size of the applet) of gkrellm on the desktop. If you need more infos, mail me. Reparenting mapped windows away from the window manager without the assistance of the window manager or the client which owns the window can lead to problems such as memory leaks, unwanted destruction of application windows and general window management failures. As such it is an ICCCM violation. For swallowing to work, a convention must be established either for all clients or for window managers. For clients this can be simply a sending a client message asking the client to withdraw the window, but that's hard to make universal. I don't know off hand how it would work by cooperation with the window manager.
