GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 650941
Address box should permit R1C1 notation even in A1 mode
Last modified: 2011-05-26 07:46:33 UTC
I need to select 256x256 cells or 512x512 cells (you get the drill) I can select the areas but I have to use the mouse and pull the area: this is good for a visible areas but a bit of a problem when selecting bigger areas.
You can type the region to select in the address box in the top left of the sheet area. (The area says "A1" when you open a new file.) Just type an address range and enter and that area will be selected.
Thank you Andreas! Sorry forgot to add more information. Your solution is the one I'm currently using because I know by heart that column letter IV is column number 256. What is column number 512? I guess my question is: can I input number-number coordinates instead of letter-number coordinates?
You can switch to R1C1 notation in Format->Sheet-UseR1C1Notation.
After you have switched you can easily create 256x256 selections by typing in R10C10:R265C265.
It probably would be nice if the address box would allow for R1C1 notation even if the sheet is not in R1C1 mode. I see no reason why that should not be possible.
Andreas, you are my hero. I do not know why I have not found this in the help files. I apologize. I do see the advantage of accepting the R1C1 notation even when not in RICI mode. I actually tried it instinctively.
I have extended the edit->select->goto cell dialog. You can now specify there in A1 format if the sheet uses that the top left corner of a range and the number of rows and columns to select.
This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
no Thank you!
