GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 643547
Send files "deleted from hard drive" to the recycle bin, instead of deleting permanently
Last modified: 2020-03-17 08:52:39 UTC
In general, I don't think it's a good practice to permanently delete a file (controlled by the user) from any application. Is there a specific reason why this was done? I tried looking for the parts of code which performed the deletion but I couldn't find it.
Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 545937 ***
On Windows, it's possible to disable the Recycle bin completely. I use such configuration on all my machines for years. So Windows Banshee could evaluate the setting and follow the global system configuration on this. Hence, I would reopen the bug as being a windows specific enhancement.
Jan, that's not a reason for reopening this bug, because that would be a bug on Windows if bug 545937 is fixed without having that in account. So, my recommendation is that you watch for updates on bug 545937 to suggest this approach for the Windows backend (or either provide a patch yourself that fixes the issue that way).
I'm lazy to watch, so I'll open another ticket with the comment I have posted here. So, please don't mark it as a duplicate as it's not. I'll mark bug 545937 as related though.

Their relation is actually a dependency so I'll change that.
Andrés, avoiding having one bug per platform is good, but when somebody is actually ready/willing to start working on one of them, I am fine with having a dedicated bug for that purpose, otherwise the meta-bug will get too cluttered. Kind of like how we have a meta-bug for websites we might like to integrate with, but when we actually get serious about one of them, we split it off.

Fine by me. But take in account you are advocating kind of the opposite of what you did in bug 589196 and its dupes ;) (btw, a review on that bug would be appreciated).
Banshee is not under active development anymore and had its last code changes more than three years ago. Its codebase has been archived. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is being shut down) if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again. See https://gitlab.gnome.org/Infrastructure/Infrastructure/issues/264 for more info.
