Description Eric Morey 2011-01-28 19:07:48 UTC
I have unchecked the box for "Format Messages in HTML" in the Composer Preferences settings. I prefer to compose my messages in plain text. However, on occasion, when replying to certain E-Mails, text of the quoted email is placed in a table with a single cell. Making it frustrating to write inline replies to the e-mails that I'm trying to rely to. I'm not sure how to provide an example of this behavior.

I have the identical problem, especially with email that comes from Yahoo. I too use text only in my preferences, but I get this html text within a box/cell effect. I'd dearly love to see it resolved. Ric

I have the exact same problem, with yahoo emails especially. This is a long standing issue. I have switched to other mail clients because of this. I give evolution a try every time I reinstall Ubuntu only to be disappointed to see this problem still remains.

Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find.

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 608318 ***

I'm seeing this marked resolved. Is the problem fixed or just that the duplicate is resolved to be the same as what we are reporting?? Thanks for your efforts! Ric
Comment 5 Milan Crha 2011-02-23 08:29:38 UTC
Just follow the "duplicate" chain and see its resolution. In our case this only means that there had been reported another bug earlier, which is about the same, and it's not fixed yet (as of today). Hence it's called duplicate.
Comment 6 Eric Morey 2011-02-23 14:28:17 UTC
This bug has been reported on Evolution, but has been marked as a duplicate of a bug reported on GtkHtml. It is clear that the issue with Evolution is currently due to GtkHtml. However, it has been described to me on several occasions that GtkHtml is essentially an abandoned project and evolution intends to replace it. Would it not be better, or at the least more accurate, to mark this bug as a dependent of bug 608318 rather than a duplicate?
Comment 7 Milan Crha 2011-02-23 16:44:40 UTC
I do not think so, they are both about the same. At least from my point of view. When the other bug will be fixed, and this will not work, then we can reopen this and do what is appropriate.
Comment 8 wayward4now 2011-02-23 17:42:30 UTC
...then wouldn't bug 608318 be set to confirmed? This has been going on for some time and I blamed my pointy hair boss for using Yahoo for making me see this effect. Since I use no other mailer, I didn't know that other mailers didn't also experience this. I'm trying to get the staff at our non-profit to switch to Linux and use Evolution for our google group stuff ala Exchange. I actually prefer Evolution. So, if this needs to be passed upstream with a sense of urgency, it would be a good thing for me/us. Thanks for your considerations. Ric

The UNCONFIRMED vs NEW states are more or less meaningless to developers, but I set bug #608318 to NEW so you feel better. If all goes to plan, Evolution should be using WebKit/GTK+ instead of GtkHtml by this time next year.
Comment 10 Eric Morey 2011-02-23 19:37:40 UTC
Although I find the means of accounting for this bug odd, it seems clear that there is a path toward a resolution that is being actively pursued. What more could I possibly ask of the developers of evolution?

I hope that the replacement of GtkHtml with WebKit/GTK+ will prove itself an easier task than expected. Ideally, I would love to see the next release of Ubuntu include the change. Good luck and thank you.
