Description:
Most times, when I edit the files in ~/.gnome-desktop by hand (i.e. with
vim) gmc crashed just like in this case.

GMC is no longer being activly maintained as it has been replaced by
Nautilus. If you want a gmc like filemanager for GNOME we recommend
looking at:
