Description André Klapper 2011-01-06 21:33:12 UTC
Move the very last page of the first-run / account wizard which is only about defining a random name for the account to the top of the second page where you get asked for name, email address, reply-to and organisation.

See Edit>Prefs>MailAccs>Edit for what I mean.

This would make the user docs (trying to cover the very different dialogs for adding and editing an account) a bit easier to maintain.

Merge last first-run wizard page into the second page

I created a patch for this bug. This is the first patch, that I have written, so hopefully it is correct.

ping - can some Evolution maintainer please review this?
It would also make maintaining the user docs a bit easier.

Merge last first-run wizard page into the second page

Patch doesn't apply cleanly anymore (which is more than likely after bitrotting and not getting a review from a developer, sorry)... :-/

I also realize that in unstable 3.3.4 the "Account Summary" page now makes way more sense as it displays the chosen server settings for review.

However I still vote for moving the "Account Information" section which asks you to enter a name for that account to the first page, as I do NOT expect a *summary* page to ask me to enter something. Instead I expect to just review what I have entered before.

I kinda disagree with this so I'm going to close it. It's also a little too complex for "gnome-love".

I know it would be more convenient from a docs standpoint, but the name you give an account is the least important step in the setup wizard, so it makes sense to me to save it for last. ("And, oh yeah, what do you want to call this thing?")

Also the wizard comes up with a reasonable default name based on information you've already entered, which it can't do if you're asked to enter a name up front.

When editing the account, there's no Summary page so the name field appears on the Identity page just because it has to go *somewhere*. But maybe it would make more sense to allow renaming directly from the account list in Preferences.
