On toolbar buttons or other widgets (such as listview items), you often have to "wiggle" the mouse over a widget for its tooltip to appear... which is bad for usability/discoverability/etc.

See the attached screencast which should convey the problem much more easily than words.

This problem doesn't seem to occur if you go from one toolbar button to another (ie "switching" tooltips), but only if your mouse cursor was outside the toolbar and then goes onto a toolbar button.

This sounds like bug #633032 which may (or may not) be related to bug #516130.

Seems fixed in 3.0 (at least I couldn't reproduce it with gedit and evolution).
