GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 630247
a user cannot define his own template file
Last modified: 2011-08-24 05:50:52 UTC
Gnumeric knows nothing about file temlpates. It makes sense having "Save As" instead of "Save" for some documents. Have a workaroud: make a file READONLY so attempt to Save such a file fails. Not elegant though.
File -> New From Template -> (list)
Changed Summary to: a user cannot define his own template file
This problem has been fixed in our software repository. The fix will go into the next software release. Thank you for your bug report. The files need to go in a directory like ~/.gnumeric/1.10.11/templates
Thank you, it works just as it supposed to. BUT please fix the template directory. Templates are version agnostic. The version in the path brings just another discomfort. On every minor version upgrade a user has his templates unavailable until he does manual mv. Please reopen or fix. Thank you.
Ildar, we don't know that templates always will be version agnostic.
Directories are cheap. We can have ~/.gnumeric/templates as well as ~/.gnumeric/1.10.11/templates

Thank you Morten, thank you very much.
As a related thing: when saving a file from a template, Gnumeric proposes to save the file in *.gnumeric format, ignoring the original template's format. Can I suggest it's worth fixing? Thank you.
