Miscellaneous string fixes

Patch attached with some miscellaneous string fixes. If it's OK, it would be best to get this in before the string freeze on Monday.

The fixes are mostly capitalisation fixes, plus some expansion of abbreviations:
 • sync → synchronize
 • auth → authentication
