GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 626893
image comments lost when upgrading from 2.10.x to 2.11.x
Last modified: 2010-08-16 11:04:01 UTC
A method needs to be added to say what location the 'comment' information is taken from. When upgrading all my comments entered using 2.10.x disappeared. The 'iptc.caption' field was ignored and I assume the jpeg or exif comment field used instead. Except that field was not overwritten when saving comments in 2.10.x and contains the name of my camera. If there was a method of configuring were to 'import' the captions from when 'importing' to the new system, this data loss could be avoided. Releated would be a method to configure what XMP/IPTC fields the image 'description' is written to, as this appears to have changed from 'caption' to 'headline'. And 'title' written to Caption.

Fixed giving priority to iptc::caption when reading the metadata; saving the description in iptc::caption and the title in iptc::headline. The fix will be available in the next public release. Thanks for the bug report.
