Description Allan Day 2010-08-02 11:17:19 UTC
When opening a folder via the Places sidebar, there is sometimes a delay in switching focus to the viewing area. Shortcuts like PgUp/PgDown end up affecting the sidebar, not the viewing area as a user would expect.

The delay seems to be caused by loading the folder or generating thumbnails - it has primarily been observed in directories containing large numbers of images.

As for me, when I open something in the sidebar, the focus always remains in the sidebar. This is not the desired behaviour, I think.

Especially when I open a place from places and then I want to start typing the file name, the "quick search" only affects the sidebar. I have to extra click in the main area, before i can search for a file there.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
