GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 625185
search text in current sheet - remember this setting
Last modified: 2010-07-26 21:50:54 UTC
background: default text search setting is to find text in all worksheets. problems: 1) when each sheet contain different data context, then workbook-wide search is irrelevant and wrong! 2) in not-so large files, with many worksheets, search is too slow, unnecessarily. in case of slow computers or frequent searches, a nuisance. 3) "search in current sheet" must be selected for each search. a nuisance. proposed solution: either - save search range indefinitely (per user), until user changes it - instead of hard-coded, allow config (and saVE) this option - set the default search range to "worksheet", but it might make some people angry :)
Note that this may be related to bug #515095: In Search/Replace you can currently save the default settings. I think those default settings should be the same for search/replace and search, especially if we expect those dialogs to be combines.
i've tested now, and i don't find a way to save the defaults in search-&-replace dialog, and my selection is not saved "by itself" on that dialog either. (gnumeric 1.10.7 on windows xp)
The saving of settings in search/replace was committed shortly (2 days) after the 1.10.7 release. So that will be in 1.10.8.
This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
does it mean also in the "search"-only dialog, or in the search replace? and in which method you chose to fix it?
Both the search and search/replace dialogs now have a checkbox that lets you save the current setting as default for future invocations. Since we want to combine those two dialogs into a single dialog in future, these settings are shared in the sense that if a setting makes sense in both dialogs then the default will always be the same.
