GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 625133
Firefox 4.0 - backspace not spoken in edit fields
Last modified: 2012-10-05 03:39:54 UTC
Use Firefox 4.0 and open any form with editable text boxes such as a search form or even this Bugzilla page. Type in some text and then use the backspace key to erase recently typed text. At present, all I hear is "new line." I should be hearing the character being deleted. I can arrow back and forth over the text and hear each character with no problem.
I think this situation has gotten worse on some pages. While I was on the Mozilla bug page in a multi line edit control like this comment field, I could not hear any speech at all while arrowing around from character to character. The backspace still doesn't talk. But here on this gnome bugzilla page, the arrow keys talk ok but still broken backspace operation. I have upgraded Firefox to 4.0b7pre from Oct 4th 2010. When I was on the Mozilla bug site, the single line search text box talked OK when arrowing around but not in the multi line. Strange, indeed.
I looked this bug with Ubuntu Natty Alpha1, the problem is exist. Ubuntu Natty containing following Firefox version: 4.0~b7+nobinonly-0ubuntu3 Attila
I Sunday used Firefox 4.0b8 with my Natty system when I reported a bug with Launchpad. Backspace key press Orca not spokening the deleted characters, so I need numbering how many characters I deleted. Steve, now working you wrote multiline edit boxes navigation with latest beta version? What can you experience? Attila
This bug is blocked by bugzilla.mozilla.oorg/show_bug.cgi?id=619002 We're pretty close to having fixed that bug but for that fix to have any effect bug 638377 needs to be fixed.
The Mozilla bug is fixed. No need for this tracker.
