Stack trace when Banshee is frozen

Originally from https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/591150,

If my Sony NWE-E436F is connected and I start Banshee afterwards, it freezes. Same situation if Banshee is already started and I plug in the device.

DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04
Package: banshee 1.6.0-1

Could you try this again with banshee 1.7.5 or higher with the udev backend enabled? This may fix your issue.

Hello,

I am the one who originally reported this bug on Launchpad. Your comment didn't end up there, so I didn't see it. I only noticed it when the Launchpad bug was closed due a lack of information, even if no one told me anything to do.

Ongoing, the issue has changed a bit. Banshee stopped crashing, but doesn't recognise the device anymore. I am using Banshee 1.8.0 from the proposed repository on Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat.

Finally I have to admit that I am only an end-user, so I need more precise instructions than "enable the udev backend". Thank you very much for your effort.

hi alv2412,

Reopening the ticket since the original reporter gave more information.
could you please attaching some debug files? you always can check the newest version and check if the issue still, more information is here: http://banshee.fm/download/development/

Just tried to install Banshee from git. Unfortunately autogen.sh breaks with a
"configure: error: Package requirements (boo >= 0.8.1) were not met:

No package 'boo' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables BOO_CFLAGS
and BOO_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.
Error: Could not run ./configure, which is required to configure banshee".

Nevertheless, the package "boo" (v. 0.9.2.3383+dfsg-1) is installed. Any advices how to fix this?

Install the debug package for it. However that's stuff for a forum and unrelated to this report. :)
Comment 9 Chow Loong Jin 2010-11-08 13:38:16 UTC
The dev one, not the debug one. But yes, that's stuff for a forum.

I'm sorry to have you bothered with this. After still having problem compiling Banshee, I used Chow Loong Jin's PPA and installed Banshee v. "1.9.0+git20101110.r2.5f87464-0ubuntu1+maveric".

The device still doesn't appear in Banshee. Attached the "banshee --debug" output.

I have Sony NWE-E436F too.
Banshee 2.0.1 does not see device. When I plug the device is mounted as a flash memory and all. Banshee as does not react.
