J, Jx J* J~ because they are short might conflict with other groups of combinations, it might be better to use J.. J,, Jxx J** J~~ so that all these combinations for Japanese are of three characters. Regarding the macrons over vowels, still <a> <minus> and <o> <minus> (or the other way around, result in an ã and õ. This should be fixed, since the tilde can be composed with the tilde key of course.
Acoording to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/113721 the macron should be fixed. However, this is not the case for the version this bug report is reporting against Ubuntu Karmic 2.18.3.
