Description torvalds 2010-05-04 22:57:16 UTC
I'm starting the paperwork for the naturalization process, and while evince doesn't seem to be all that good at filling out PDF's, I didn't really expect that. However, I _did_ expect it to be able to see them and print them out.

Sadly, it looks like USCIS has done some of the documents with a new version of Adobe acrobat, and I can't even view them, much less print them out with evince.

See for example form G-1145, available from the USCIS site here:

      http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/g-1145.pdf

for something that doesn't view with the current version of evince as available in Fedora-12.

I've not tried to compile any newer versions myself.

I'm not sure why this bug is marked as "UNCONFIRMED". Why don't you just test the file I pointed at? Here it is as an attachment.

Btw, if it wasn't clear: that pdf file is _supposed_ to be a real USCIS form, and shows up as such in Adobe Acrobat reader. See screen shot.

In evince it shows up as a useless page saying that I should get a later version of the PDF viewer. That is _not_ what anybody wants.

I haven't looked at the file in detail, but I can reproduce the problem. It seems poppler doesn't support these files. I've just forwaded it to the freedesktop bugzilla:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28153

Thanks for reporting.
