go to edit -> preferences -> mail preferences -> automatic contacts tab 

Synchronize contact info and images from pidgin buddy list under Instant messaging contacts doesn't have mnemonic.

Too late to fix this for 2.30, but I've started a private branch with string
changes for 2.31.  I'll push the fix after we branch.
