Description Konstantin Tokarev 2010-02-28 14:55:09 UTC
Being only visual effect ("whistle"), animation of selection can significantly hog CPU, escpecially if large number of cells is selected. Static dashed border will be quite enough to higlight selection.

The normal selection is not animated at all. So you must be refering to the temporary animation of a selection that has just be copied before any other significant action has been performed.

What level of "significantly hog CPU" do you see?
Comment 2 Konstantin Tokarev 2010-05-05 08:03:58 UTC
Can't reproduce exactly situation I've faced, but I've tried to "copy" 6 whole columns in empty sheet, and animation takes 30% of my 566MHz CPU (10% Gnumeric + 20% Xorg). Maybe it's not "significant" in general case, but if I forget about that animated selection for a long time, system really slows down. And it's only because of "bells&whistles"
