Quick sketch of a possible 'clip properties' dialog (200.20 KB, image/png)

It would be great to be able to specify the length of a clip, especially for static graphics such as bitmaps. Otherwise, it is difficult to get a consistent length for titles. Workaround is to copy the length of a master clip by using the end-of-clip snap on a clip in a separate track.

Makes sense, there could be a way to right-click a clip and do a "Set duration" or something like that... I'm wondering if
- this should apply only to still images
- if it also applies to video etc.: this is trimming, and it causes the problem of having two extremities (the beginning and the end point). Or should it "stretch" the video over time? Hmmm.
Comment 2 Matt Mets 2010-02-15 17:21:55 UTC
Maybe it could be part of a more general 'properties' panel (dialog box or tab) for a clip? I don't know if this goes against the look&feel guidelines for the program, but it might be a nice place to put adjustments for things like trim adjustment points and stretching.

But then if you had a "clip trim properties" thing that used a visual representation, you'd end up with the same problem (ie: lack of absolute precision)...

Sorry for the crude sketch, this is what I was thinking. The 'seconds' display is supposed to be a drop-down list.

A major issue that is coming to mind is how other clips on the timeline would be expected to react- do they get pushed back, cropped themselves, or does the modified clip drop into it's own track? It might make more sense to just have a right-click property for static graphics though, and not get too deep into this :-).

Just a "me to" - I've been trying to find a way to do frame-accurate editing in Pitivi for a while with no luck. Being able to make frame-accurate edits is a basic function for any serious video editor. If you need to make something *exactly* 2 minutes, 3 seconds, and 5 frames, dragging stuff around in a GUI just doesn't do it - you really need a dialog where you can specific exactly where the edit should be.
