GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 609387
Empathy does not display resource being used by XMPP contact
Last modified: 2018-05-22 14:01:39 UTC
Empathy does not display the xmpp client being used by the contact in the information window.
Downstream bug in Ubuntu: https://bugs.launchpad.net/empathy/+bug/449019
I would also like to see this feature implemented; from a discussion in #empathy on IRC, however, it sounds like it will need Telepathy support first. I see multiple pieces of information being useful additions for XMPP contacts in the contact information: * Each resource connected, with resource name, status, and status message * The client name/version is interesting here, but deluging the user with too much information may not be helpful. Adding to this the ability for the user to bypass resource selection and begin a conversation with a particular resource would likewise be useful. If this is not in line for this bug, let me know and I'll open a new one. The original bug is somewhat confusing, as the subject mentions "resource" and the description mentions "client" (the same is true for the downstream Launchpad bug).
This is now possible using http://telepathy.freedesktop.org/spec/Connection_Interface_Resources.html
