GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 609223
empathy does not recognize ppp connections
Last modified: 2018-05-22 14:01:26 UTC
"Empathy will not attempt to connect to accounts in Karmic if the computer's network connection is a ppp connection, such as a blackberry tether. Empathy likely only recognizes network connections that are valid in network manager, which I believe is a bug." originally reported at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/457870
at launchpad somebody proposed the workaround to be unticking /apps/empathy/use_conn in gnonf-editor.
Is "Enable network" enabled or disabled in network-manager?
Downstream comment: "This happens regardless of the state of the "Enable networking" setting in nm-applet."
Any news for this bug?

Thank for reply Omer. Can you set the exact version for empathy and GNOME. reopen
Is the connection supported by network-manager? Are you online from NM's point of view?
ping Omer!?
this happens if you are not using network-manager (gnome's) for connecting. e.g. if the user is using gnome ppp
could be dbus problem?
