originally reported at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/452245

"I was chatting with my wife. We hadnt posted any messages in a while, but the window was still open. It was the only empathy window open at the time. When out of the blue,

 - 17:02 -
 - Falice has joined the room

appeared. I have no clue what happened, but I didnt invite her to that chat, my wife doesnt know her and they re both NOT using beta software, so I guess this is an Empathy problem.
And a huge problem at that! (Or is it a feature to get my contacts to know eachother without me having to put effort into the whole social thing ;) )"
Comment 1 Omer Akram 2010-02-07 09:57:23 UTC
I confirm this in empathy 2.29.6

Which protocol are you using to chat with your wife? MSN?
Comment 3 Omer Akram 2010-02-09 11:45:06 UTC
I have send a message to original bug reporter. and sorry for comment#1 I thought my case was the same. my two friends were chatting and they invited me to a group chat and I just got entered in without any notification.
Comment 4 Omer Akram 2010-03-22 15:17:43 UTC
The reporter says that he was using MSN, but butterfly dont support group chat? so this should be marked invalid?
Comment 5 Guillaume Desmottes 2010-03-23 07:56:48 UTC
It's implemented since butterfly 0.5.6. I'm pretty sure this should be fixed with latest empathy and butterfly releases.
Please re-open if you can reproduce with recent versions.
