GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 608505
Preferences for "Length Unit" does not take
Last modified: 2010-09-18 18:12:30 UTC
Greetings, Thank you for the Dia product, and your continued development. I've ran into what I believe to be a couple of bugs. I would characterize both as preference or selections not being recorded and acted upon. First, with the Dia Shapes package loaded I receive a warning at each program start that there are several object types named "Cisco - CDDI-FDDI" and that only the first one will be used. Two check boxes are provided, one to show repeated messages and the other to not show the message again. Checking the "Don't show this message again" check box and closing the dialog box does not suppress this warning across program starts. The second item is more troubling, and affects functionality. Selecting a "Length Unit" of "Inches" in the Preferences dialog has no observable effect on the current or new document tabs. Thank you for your continued efforts in the development of Dia. It really is appreciated. Sincerely, J.D. Wampler
Hi. I use Dia 0.97 on Windows XP SP3. My default settings for Length Unit in the Preferences tab is 'Centimeter'. I verified this by starting Dia, clicking on File -> Preferences. I can also see in the File -> Page Setup window that the margins are in cm as is the Paper Size. I then changed the Length Unit to 'Inch', navigated to the Page Setup and could see that the margins are now specified as 'in' but the Paper Size is still being specified in 'cm'. Out of curiosity I opened another app (MS Word) and changed the Measurements to Inch to see what happened to the Paper Size width and height. These measurements changed to the appropriate system (imperial, metric) as per what is specified in the Measurements menu. To the point that J.D. Wampler is making, I observed (and therefore verified) that there is no visible change to the grid lines to give some impression of the measurements being used. Additionally, I couldn't find anything that could tell me the size of the object I put onto the canvas, although strictly speaking, this would be another report! In summary: 1. There is an obvious issue with the actual unit of measurement in the Page Setup window. 2. No visible way of determining the measurement being used by looking at the canvas or rulers 3. There is no child window that indicates the size of the object. Cheers, Timothy
I have also looked into the duplicate shape issue. I have installed shapes by using DiaShapes v0.2.1 twice and restarted Dia after each shapes install to see what happen. I'm not receiving any warnings about duplicate shapes. For this issue, more information would be needed to ascertain how the shapes were installed. From my research, DiaShapes is not duplicating shapes and/or sheets so I'm unable to reproduce the issue. Cheers, Timothy
Dia is known to be "too metric", see bug #133644 - maybe one day there is someone interested in inches enough to provide a patch ;) *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 133644 ***
