chat with someone and then press ctrl+l to clear chat text then close empathy and again start and chat with the contact and text that was cleared previously is still there.

Ctrl-L is just meant to clear the screen, not erase the logs.

An option to erase the log could be useful, but it would be difficult with the current log format in tp-logger.

More immediately useful is the ability to go off the record with a contact in Empathy. This should be easy to implement.
