GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 606399
Sharing a folder should check parent folder's permission
Last modified: 2021-06-18 15:16:29 UTC
this report has been filed here: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/480187 "Using right-click -> sharing options: When sharing a folder with wrong permissions (eg. no reading permissions for other users), you get a warning dialog, offering to change permissions for that folder. But, if that folder has correct permissions and its parent folder doesn't have, it doesn't give any warning. Example: $ mkdir folderA $ mkdir folderA/folderB $ chmod o-rx folderA Then try to share folderB. You get no warnings, and the share doesn't work. It should give the same warning you get if you try to share folderA."
Mass component change due to BZ cleanup, sorry for the noise.
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
