gnome-terminal -e ls

or 

gnome-terminal --command ls

works fine, but something like

gnome-terminal --command "ls; sleep 3"

(when just using multiple commands, as in a shell) leads to the error

"There was an error creating the child process for this terminal"

and a non functioning terminal.

I'm using gnome-terminal 2.28.2 on Archlinux.
