GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 604364
Log Viewer: Log window jumps to bottom on new messages
Last modified: 2020-09-26 09:41:11 UTC
this report has been filed here: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-utils/+bug/477565 refer bug 576414 "When viewing a log file in the log file viewer, the display jumps to the bottom of the log when new messages are written to the log. This is desired behaviour if the display is at the bottom of the file already, however if I am trying to read part of the middle of the log file I do not want it to jump to the end. The viewer should only scroll to the bottom if the scrollbar was already at the bottom before the new message appeared." Thanks,
I can confirm this bug in 2.28 and 2.30. I think this bug should be set to high importance, as it makes gnome-system-log useless with a busy log and it's a regression from 2.26. "High Seriously broken, but not as high impact. Should be fixed before next major release. Frequently includes cosmetic bugs of particularly high visibility, regressions from functionality provided in previous releases, and more minor bugs that are frequently reported. "
gnome-system-log is not under active development anymore and had its last code changes more than four years ago. Its codebase has been archived at https://gitlab.gnome.org/Archive/gnome-system-log/ Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is being shut down) if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again.
