GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 601186
High cpu usage and freezing gui on song change,
Last modified: 2010-08-05 16:13:26 UTC
When changing song cpu usage increases dramatically and gui freezes for few seconds. I've tried running from a fresh profile and after importing my music library (7000+ songs) cpu usage was still high but gui was slightly more responsive. After restarting banshee gui was freezing again. So I've tried again with a fresh profile, but this time I've added just ten albums. Cpu was still peeking but gui wasn't freezing (it wasn't snappy either). Disabling all plugins didn't help. I'm experiencing this with Banshee 1.5.1(from ubuntu repo) on Ubuntu 9.10 i386 (log attached), but also had this problem on Ubuntu 9.04 i686 with Banshee 1.5.1 from banshee-team ppa.
Are you seeing this problem with Banshee 1.6? If you are, could you follow these steps and attach the log: http://banshee-project.org/contribute/file-bugs/
Maybe also concerning #614963, I experienced the following: I had 100% cpu on song change, GUI freeze for many seconds (no end in sight). After reading high cpu usage due to metadate writes I disabled the "write ratings and .. meta data to file" option and the problem appears to be gone! However, writing tags and ratings manually works and doesn't cause unusual cpu usage. I hope this helps! OP, could you try the "workaround"? (i.e. check if you have that option enabled)

I experience the same problem. Even other applications are blocked (don't know why and if it's specific to this problem) > After reading high cpu usage due to metadate writes I disabled the "write > ratings and .. meta data to file" option and the problem appears to be gone! I tried it and it works. It perfectly works. I cannot understand it, but it seems to solve my problem. Thanks for this information!

Hi Tobias! I do have the same problem with banshee 1.7.3. The metadata writing blocks the application for several seconds. If it's finished (timestamp of the just played file) banshee wakes up and you can use it normally. Could you explain any further which information do you need? This would be helpful! Greetings, Philip
Hey Philip :-) Please follow instructions on http://banshee.fm/contribute/file-bugs/ as per comment #1 and try to reopen this bug. Thanks in advance.
