GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 597770
Sent folder does not automatically update when email just got sent
Last modified: 2021-05-19 12:14:52 UTC
Downstream bug https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=445633 I send a mail, I notice it shows up in the OutBox (by the folder count), I switch to the 'Sent' folder before it is sent; then I wait - the OutBox goes empty again (as seen in the folder tree) - but the 'Sent' folder doesn't update. I wait - still nothing; double clicking on the Sent folder shows the new mail: but that shouldn't be necessary - surely, the folder view should be a live view - particularly since these are both local folders.
This a dupe of whatever bug is designated as the "folders don't sync until you switch folders or manually refresh" issue.
Created attachment 156997 [details] debug changes for evolution; I tried to reproduce this with actual master, but it doesn't want to do that for me. Either I did some steps wrong, or some data state is required to be able to reproduce it. I used these changes to see whether message-list receives changes on the folder, and it does for me. (I also disabled real message sending, to not bug my server, but even when I enable sending, then it seems to work fine; both with an IMAP account with its own Sent folder, then also with an On This Computer/Sent folder. Any idea what do to differently?
This issue is still reproducible against 2.33.1. Steps to Reproduce: ==================== 1. Go to Sent Items. 2. Create a New Mail. 3. Send it. 4. Wait. 5. The newly sent mail doesn't get reflected in "Sent Items" folder until folder is refreshed.
(In reply to comment #3) > 5. The newly sent mail doesn't get reflected in "Sent Items" folder until > folder is refreshed. How could it otherwise appear unless the folder is refreshed? At least on the older IMAP provider, a folder refresh occurs when you switch to a new folder, manually refresh the folder (Folder->Refresh), or the periodic "Check For New Messages" timer elapses. With IMAPX, this may be solved now with the IDLE support.
I suppose it should work automatically when the folder was opened already in UI, because Evolution added the message to the folder and the camel provider should notify "folder-changed" others about new message and folder tree in evo UI, and thus also message-list, should receive this signal and act upon it.
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/Community/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new bug report ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
