Description Asa Zernik 2009-10-01 21:02:24 UTC
Mostly a request to duplicate a favorite feature from Pidgin, which allows you to group together a contact's AIM, Jabber, MSN, etc. accounts so that they appear in the contact list as a single contact. When you ask to send an IM to this contact, the client picks one of the accounts that is online to which to send the IM.

This produces a workflow of "I want to talk to so-and-so person, let me find their name" rather than "I want to talk to so-and-so person, let me find one of their IM accounts." Much more intuitive and human-friendly.

(Just got Empathy with my Ubuntu upgrade, and I'm liking it!)

This is called meta contact. We already have a bug about that ;-)
