GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 594370
Adding an applet to the Gnome panel
Last modified: 2010-01-14 03:12:13 UTC
Sending upstream from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/424890 To add an applet to the Gnome panel, I am supposed to right-click on an empty part of hte panel and choose "Add to Panel...". On my desktop (Ubuntu Jaunty Netbook Remix) there is no empty part of the panel. It is all taken up by the icons. The only way to add an applet is: 1. Right click on the notification area to the left of the applets and uncheck "Lock to Panel". 2. Right click on the notification area again and click "Move". 3. Move the mouse a bit to the left and left-click. 4. Now I can right-click on the empty part of the panel and choose "Add to Panel...". 5. Right-click on the notification area again, choose Move and drag it back. 6. Right-click on the notification area for he fourth time and check "Lock to Panel". This took a long time to figure out and is not very convenient. Suggested solutions: * The "Add to Panel..." option should appear when right-clicking on the clock or perhaps on all the icons. * Panel options should appear under Preferences in the main menu. Right-click menus should never be the only way to access something. (Gnome bug #525523)
