GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 591711
totem does not allow disabling vobsub subtitles in mkv
Last modified: 2010-05-06 13:48:51 UTC
Please describe the problem: In an mkv file with vobsub subtitles, totem displays them without providing a way to turn them off. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create an mkv file with vobsub-format subtitles 2. Play it in totem 3. right-click and look at the subtitles menu Actual results: It displays one option, "Empty", which is ghosted. Expected results: It should at least display the option to turn the subtitles on or off. Does this happen every time? Yes Other information:
Which version of Totem and associated gstreamer packages?
totem version is in the bug report. Gstreamer version 0.10.24 gstreamer-plugins-good 0.10.15 gstreamer-plugins-bad 0.10.13 gstreamer-plugins-ugly 0.10.12
(In reply to comment #2) > totem version is in the bug report. It's not. Or you must mean another bug report...
On the top right of this page it shows: Product: totem Version: 2.27.x Am I missing something here?
(In reply to comment #4) > On the top right of this page it shows: > > Product: totem > Version: 2.27.x > > Am I missing something here? Yes, the micro version. 2.27.1 and 2.27.2 are possible answers, so is "current git master version".
Aha, thank you. 2.27.2. Apologies, I wasn't trying to be a pain.
Do you have a test file for this? Could you please make it available?
Created attachment 142423 [details] Test movie containing vobsub subtitles I've attached a test file.
Note that the subtitles aren't expected to match the movie...
See bug 583267. GStreamer doesn't allow any control over subpicture subtitles.

There's a bounty on this bug: http://www.fossfactory.org/project/p188
Marking that bug as a duplicate of the GStreamer bug, as there won't be anything to do on the Totem side when playbin2 exposes the subtitles properly. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 583267 ***
