Description Joanmarie Diggs (IRC: joanie) 2009-08-07 17:36:01 UTC
Steps to reproduce:

1. Enable the braille text attributes indicator (by default, the underlining style if None)

2. Open a chat window in Pidgin

3. Start typing a message

Expected results: Pidgin would not crash.

Actual results: Pidgin crashes.

Note that this problem can be reproduced without Orca running; in Accerciser, attempting to get the default text attributes for the editable text object reliably crashes Pidgin. I have filed a bug against Pidgin here: http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/9864

The work-around in the meantime is to not enable the display of braille text attributes in your Orca setting for Pidgin.

I should add that doing an Orca+F to have the attributes spoken will also crash Pidgin.

On another note, this is actually an atk bug (bug 591105), but I've asked the Pidgin developers to consider changing the wrap mode in the meantime.

Adding Empathy to the list of impacted apps. :-(

The good news is that Li just committed the fix for the atk bug. Whether or not the developers of Pidgin, Empathy, and Ekiga also add some defensive handling into their code is up to them, of course. I'll put a note up on the wiki.

Closing this bug as FIXED.
