GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 590807
Disambiguate Monitor Identifiers if necessary
Last modified: 2013-09-03 10:16:33 UTC
At work I've got a laptop and two 24 inch screens, both screens are the same model, so they show up with the same label. I never know which monitor is on the left side and which on the right. Would it make sense to display the connector for each monitor in this case?

Yeah, I have the same problem with identical monitors. I'll make the labels also mention the connection name.
The current plan is to identify displays by number only; this would avoid the disambiguation issue. See: https://live.gnome.org/Design/SystemSettings/Displays#Tentative_Guidelines (These designs are due to change; comments are welcome.)
The design Allan mentioned has now been implemented and resolves this issue by using a unique number for each display.
