GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 590498
No tools work while using a BambooFun pen tablet
Last modified: 2009-08-06 20:18:27 UTC
Please describe the problem: I am unable to use any tools (select, paint, or edit) within the main dialog box using a Bamboo Fun tablet model cte-650 Other periphary devices such as a 3-wheel mouse and touchpad work fine The tablet works well in other devices. I have updated the drivers for the tablet, re-installed GIMP. Reinstallation worked until the computer rebooted, Steps to reproduce: 1. Plug in tablet 2. Start GIMP 3. Curse (optional) Actual results: No tools work within the main image dialouge window Expected results: Does this happen every time? Began happening about a week ago, seems farily consistent as of now. Other information: Windows XP media center edition, SP3 IBM ThinkPad Ienovo t60 Tablet: BambooFun CTE-650
I have GIMP 2.6.4 on windows xp SP3, with bamboo fun CTE-450W and I can't reproduce this bug (even though the tablets are very similar). I had a similar bug (none of the tools worked if I used the tablet) but it disappeared after a while without any obvious reason (But I'm not complaining). If this is temporary (like the bug I had) you can try the following steps as a workaround: 1. Don't even touch your tablet. 2. Open up gimp, using your mouse only! 3. Open a new image and do something on the canvas with some tool (again, mouse only). 4. Only now switch to the tablet, and it will work perfectly fine. You can try the steps above and see if then the tablet works. This bug happened to me and it lasted for around 2 weeks, and I found out that starting GIMP with a mouse and only then switching to a tablet is a nice workaround. Try to see if it works, I hope it will supply the developers some information that will help them fix the bug.
i have a bamboo wacom(the lastest), not the fun, and i get this issue, but it works a bit different, for example: If i start GIMP with the tablet plug in, i can use GIMP normally, no issues, but when i try to use the mouse, it doesn't let me draw, or use any tool. Just the tablet can draw. This issue happens also if the mouse is the one that is plug in, then i try to use the tablet. So, i just can draw with the mouse... Also, can anyone try to open GIMP by opening a .xcf file with the tablet plug in, then try to use the sensitivity of the tablet?? GIMP was strange and didn't allow me to use it... but only happen once or two times. I use 2.6.5. on Windows Vista
IMO too many different problems are mixed here - and they're most likely duplicates of existing GTK+ bug reports.
Could the initial problem be a duplicate of bug #549839?
bug #549839 is exactly what that happened to me - The tablet works perfectly in the toolbox and other dialogs, however in many cases it doesn't work inside the image window. (Although it doesn't happen any more on my computer) This also sounds exactly like the original report. I also saw several of these bugs in the wacom support forums when I bought my tablet and this happened (I haven't entered them recently, but I'm sure they can still be found).
Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 549839 ***
