Description Uwe Dippel 2009-07-28 14:24:56 UTC
Background: I have a 1600x1200 monitor that does not provide EDID. As of now, I can't use it as second monitor on my notebook.
gnome-display-properties doesn't detect its resolutions (no EDID), and doesn't allow me to run it properly.
I can't actually use it properly as primary monitor neither; the maximum I get is 1024x768 at 60 Hz.

My request: Allow an override for horizontal and vertical frequencies. At least, when a monitor is found as 'unknown', a pop-up might want to inform the user about the problem, and offer ('advanced') to enter the values manually.

You should be able to create new modes by using "xrandr" on the command-line, and they will then be visible to the display panel.

We will not be adding ways to configure displays "from scratch" in the display panel though there may be advanced display tweaker applications out there.
